Public Debate Last weekend (21/22 March) 100 randomly selected UK citizens debated Europe’s response to the financial crisis with politicians and experts at the European Citizens’ Consultation 2009 in London. 100 citizens came up with 10 policy recommendations which will be given to decision-makers in Brussels.

The European Citizens’ Consultation 2009 (ECC09) website launches today (03 December) in the UK giving citizens the opportunity to discuss the future of Europe. The website is managed by Involve; the UK national partner in the ECC 2009 process. In the run-up to the 2009 Euro-elections ECC 2009 will give citizens a voice in the debate over how to respond to the current economic and financial crisis.

Freedom of choice on natural medicines and therapies

When is the EU going to admit it got it totally and utterly wrong when they started to effectively ban natural therapies and medicines, by playing along with the sweet talking generous men from Big Pharma. The EU has already got their armies of little Hitlers out checking natural health stores for those natural supplements that didn't make the approved list. The commissioners and MEP's swallowed the crap that the drug companies dished out about how they spend millions in testing their products, but natural supplement suppliers did not have to and that made them bad.

Allow marriage to the human beings of any sexes

Marriage remains the only civic institution linked to sex. - Alone a woman has the right to marry a man. - Alone a man has the right to marry a woman. And, sex is a biological, but no way juridical notion. This residue of discrimination must be eliminated: Let us define marriage as the union freely and reciprocally approved between two human beings and the possible private activities which they could play then look at nobody.

Recognize by the animal the law not to be exploited and not killed

It would be necessary more than time to grant a real legal status to the animal which, nowadays, is still considered as a "piece of furniture" in the civil code. How to wonder while abuses, any cruelest some that the others, are committed against those who had no "luck" to be born human if the ill-treatment, the exploitation and the killing are only rarely punished by the law?

Making the case for lower taxation across the EU

High taxation de-motivates both on a personal level and an economic one. Low taxation stimulates investment and helps to raise the standard of living, resulting in a more contented citizen. Many poor would not be so poor if the basic cost of living was relatively cheap, and they could live off the basic wage. Additionally, if this could be arranged, they would need less in the way of supporting benefits, and taxation could also come down. There should be no taxation on food, clothes or dying.

In de Europese Unie engageren zich meer dan 100 miljoen mensen in het vrijwilligerswerk, en een groot deel van de bevolking stelt dat vrijwilligerswerk een deel van het democratisch en sociaal leven in de Europese Unie vormt (Speciale Eurobarometer “European Social Reality”, 2006). Vrijwilligerswerk is een belangrijke economische factor, als men bedenkt dat het een aanzienlijke bijdrage levert tot het BNP van onze nationale economieën.
