EU citizens right to vote
by Lesley Joines, France

The voting rights of all EU citizens should be harmonized and as EU citizens we should be able to choose to vote in our country of residence within the EU. At the moment as EU citizens living in another EU member state we only have the right to vote in Council and European elections.
There are several million member state expats within the EU, many of us never return to our country of origin. We are able to join the local political party's, we pay the taxes but we do not have the right to vote for the members of parlement. As British citizens we loose our right to vote after leaving the UK for more than 15 years. I am a European Citizen and I am very involved with French politics, but I still want to keep my British Nationality and above all be able to use the fundemental democratic right to vote.
I am part of the European Movement France.
I have the support of several French politicians about this subject but mainly the national politicians only think about their own nationals and forget the expat population. In France our European constituency's are far to big our MEP's to be aware of this problem.
I would be gratefull for any support and I would be very interested to debate on this subject before the next EU elections in June.
