Bridge the gap between rich and poor
The growing gap between rich and poor people is and will remain one of the major challenges for the European Union in the coming years. The EU should urge Member States to impose higher taxes on above average incomes. High earners should have to give back more to the community!
Why is it always middle class citizens who pay the price while the rich continue to get richer?
First of all, there are people who claim that they are unemployed and get benefits when in fact they have a job. So, not only do they not pay taxes for what they earn but they also get benefits.
And secondly, if I worked hard to have a good job, I deserve to earn more. Why should one pay more taxes for those claiming to be 'poor' but still have jobs, or maybe spend money on what might be a luxury for them (such as cigarettes). If they can't afford food, how can they afford cigarettes and alcohol?
This does not mean that there should not be higher taxes for people such as doctors/lawyers who don't claim everything they earn.
