agriculture
The EU should ensure that agriculture does not have adverse effects on health and environment and promote food self-sufficiency. This would include the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices such as organic farming, local food production, reduced fertiliser and pesticide use. GMOs should be banned except for medicinal purposes.
How can I take part in the debate?
Throughout the European Citizens' Consultations, 1 600 citizens from the 27 countries of the EU have determined 15 recommendations on the economic and social future of Europe. You may discuss these recommendations in this dedicated forum.

This could be done through a control of the production, in order to avoid huge wastes of food and excessive land exploitation. The EU should also make sure that its agricultural policies don't have a negative impact on the agriculture of developping countries and are coherent with the objective to eradicate poverty.
Well , its obvious that EU should ensure that agriculture does not have adverse effect on health and environnement, do you really think they didnt think about it before...?A sustainable agricultural practises is a really great idea, the governements have to encourage it by giving subventions to the producers willing to do it.Last thing, concerning the ACP in the EU, we have to be careful not to lower the level of the products..im particularly thinking of the wine (as im french, we already have difficulties to mainatin competition as we have really strict rules in our countries, level of sugar, old tradition of oat cask threatened etc....) and very recently a debate concerning the Rosé about authorizing to mix White wine and red and call it Rosé...what a shame!
I do not agree about the banning of GMOs, GM crops can reduce the need for pesticides and allow crops to grow in more adverse conditions. Due to climate change GM crops may become necessary to feed Europe. Education about GM crops to reduce suspicion and often unfounded worries about its effects should be increased to allow people to truly understand GM crops and the positive impact they can have. Although I do agree the use of GM crops needs to be combined with sustainable farming practices and organic farming also. Genetic diversity and biodiversity needs to be maintained ,so encouraging and protecting wildlife within agricultural practices is vital.
