The EU should aim to reduce global warming and phase-out fossil fuels by promoting renewable energy from water, solar, wind, hydrogen, waste and residues from industry. Member States should cooperate and develop energy sources on the basis of both national and regional conditions. This includes de-centralised energy production, energy self-sufficient regions and communities and by using economic instruments and incentives for internationally coordinated research.
Throughout the European Citizens' Consultations, 1 600 citizens from the 27 countries of the EU have determined 15 recommendations on the economic and social future of Europe. You may discuss these recommendations in this dedicated forum.

I fully agree with this proposal, which should stand above all priorities for the European Union! But we, as citizens, should make sure that this ambitious goal (cooperating and developing energy sources on the basis of both national and regional conditions) will not benefit principally to the nuclear industry!
Good initiative!!Since the last few years, we are finally realizing that we are destructing our planet and that its ressources are not unlimited. We should all make a gesture depending on our means (promoting solar energy by buying solar boards for instance, recycling as much as we can...)
Those are only theoretical objectives of the European Energy Policy. But let's think at solutions. How the EU can put those objectives in practice? The liberalization of the energy markets is a start. But the process is slow. On the short term this increases the competition on Russian gas. The big energy companies are very strong, but those companies are the only factors that can put in practice EU's "green objectives".
It will take a long time until EU will base his development on the green energy...the potential is high but is not reachable (technologically speaking).
In this moment we know what to do but the thing is how we can do it in a more accessible way…
I agree with all these aims but its also important to change peoples attitudes towards the energy issue. More impotance should be put on reducing our energy consumption and waste rather than trying to find more energy. Living in a more sustainable way is only possible if people are willing to turn off lights in day time, shutting down computors when they are not in use and considering walking or cycling rather than jumping in the car.
All is well in terms of theory and plausible practice. However, unless accordance to energy policies is granded legal status, then enforcing policy does not stand a chance. Added to that, monetary support in order for industry and other sectors to shift to more eco friendly approches is of essence. Not to mention pressure in the automobile industry to proceed with the long awaited eco-friendly vehicles in full production (eg hydrogen poewered)

We should enforce the developement of alternative energy, our aim should be to get complete alternative energy supply by 2025

Most we should use is windenergy (especially at the coasts and in the sea near the coasts) and solar power.
hi i think this is the most important totally agree on this. the eu should be a beacon a symbol for the world on green environmentally sustainable economy for the 21 century a postmodern effective green union a force of peace a soft power in the world this it whAT WE SHOULD AIM FOR NOW GREAT FR JOHNB.
